Finding Our Purpose With Overtime Winner

Overtime Winner is back and better than ever with their brand new single, “Finding My Purpose After a Few Mulligans” - their first release since July 2024’s “Selling Myself Lies”. Overtime Winner has proven us time again why they’re one of the most notable, up and coming pop punk bands on the scene right now. What initially caught my ear about their new song was the catchy lead guitar hook intro and upbeat vibe as the full band comes crashing in with authority. As in classic pop punk/emo fashion, the vibe doesn't always align with the lyrical content of the song itself - with this song dealing with themes of a bitter breakup and how one can find their sense of purpose in life after a breakup; a common experience a lot of us can empathize with. Overtime Winner does a great job at keeping the energy up throughout this song, whilst also giving vocalist Luke Haines enough space to showcase his distinct talent. With an undeniably catchy chorus, you can’t help but have this song engrained in your head after your first listen. The guitar solo is also reminiscent of bands such as Rise Against when it comes to its tonality and melody. Overall the song itself gives off an energy similar to bands such as Real Friends and The Wonder Years - both legendary bands within the genre in their own right. Towards the end of the song we get a solid half-time chorus that hits the listener where it matters most: the feels - before coming back full throttle to finish off and leave the listener to process what they just witnessed for the last four minutes. “Finding My Purpose After a Few Mulligans” is an instant repeat in my book and it only makes me that much more excited to see what Overtime Winner has in store for 2026!
